Volunteer

The Sustainability Center thrives with the participation of student, staff, and community volunteers. Whether you've got just a few hours free or you are looking for a large service project, there are a variety of opportunities available for helping in both short- and long-term capacities. You should first join the UISC Volunteer Mailing List to stay up to date on current volunteering opportunities. You may also contact the UISC Volunteer Coordinator

Here are some existing opportunities:

  1. Data collection for Recyclemania. This a great way to get involved right in the middle of Recyclemania. This is a 1-2 hour commitment on a weekly basis and consists of weighing and recording recyclables from the residence hall Recyclemania competition.
  2. Outreach. This can be either a one-time opportunity or a long-term commitment. We are currently in need of volunteers on the ground across the campus and community, helping us to gather support for our Request for Innovation (RFI) proposal with the university to reduce the UI waste stream and save the school money.
  3. Tree planting. These are one-time 2-4 hour volunteering events. It's a little early in the season yet, but by April our planting projects will be going full steam. Help reduce the campus carbon footprint the most natural way - and beautify the grounds while you're at it!
  4. Something new! Do you have a skill you'd like to offer to the UISC? Would you like more experience in a certain area? What's your passion? The Sustainability Center is committed to matching volunteers to projects that will inspire and prepare them to work toward a sustainable future while enhancing their leadership skills, boosting their resume, and positively impacting the university and community.
