University Commons

The new "heart" of campus   The Commons
For a Changing Living and Learning Environment

The University Center’s first initiative is the Idaho Commons project, a 78,000-square-foot facility designed to enhance the University of Idaho’s residential, living and learning environment. The Commons will be constructed in the heart of campus, adjacent to the University Classroom Center (UCC). With its location at the core of campus, the Commons is expected to become a vital UI academic and social center.

With numerous study areas, lounges, meeting rooms and dining facilities, the Commons will offer students and faculty a place to continue their classroom discussions and engage in informal learning long after regular class times have ended.   The "meet/eat/talk place" in the center of campus

The Commons also will allow students, faculty and staff greater access to key university programs and services without having to leave their routine activities at the heart of campus. In addition to its many gathering areas, the Commons will house ASUI student government, student organizations, classrooms, computer labs, retail outlets and a copy center.

Construction will begin in 1998 and be complete by 2000.
