Job Hazard Analysis
Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) is a systematic process for identifying hazards related to a specific job task and determining the best way to perform the task to eliminate or reduce those hazards. One of the best ways to prevent workplace injuries is to complete JHAs to establish and document safe job procedures and then use them as a primary reference when compiling standard operating procedures and training employees how to accomplish a specific job task safely.
Supervisors of employees who may operate or service equipment and/or perform tasks that could result in serious injuries if safe work practices are not identified and followed are encouraged to use the methods and materials provided on this webpage to perform related JHAs.
Environmental Health and Safety periodically presents a Job Hazard Analysis course that is intended for supervisors of employees who may operate or service equipment and/or perform tasks that could result in serious injuries if safe work practices are not identified and followed.
Supervisors who want to learn more about how to use the methods described and forms provided on this webpage to perform JHAs may check whether this course is currently being offered by logging onto the EHS TrainTrack website and selecting Course Descriptions from the side-bar menu.
If the Job Hazard Analysis Course is not currently being offered, you may notify EHS of your interest in this course by selecting Request Courses to be Scheduled from the side-bar menu, scrolling down the list of courses that appear to Job Hazard Analysis-SJHA, and then click on the link Request that this course be scheduled that appears immediately following the course’s title-code.
