Automated DNA Sequencing at The University of Idaho

Policy

  • Read Length
Because of the highly variable nature of DNA sequencing we can not guarantee a minimum read length.  However, with high quality template, it is not unusual to obtain > 800 - 1000 bases of sequence with 98.5% accuracy. The "world record", so far, is 1374 bp held by our facility at the University of Idaho.

  • Failed Sequence Reactions
We will not be responsible for failed sequence reactions due to compressions, homopolymeric tracts, or template impurity. Reactions that fail will still be billed to your account. We will make every effort possible to ensure that our primers, reagents and techniques are not the cause of sequence failure.

  • Service B (sequencing reactions)
Templates submitted for sequencing will be used
as is unless arrangements are made for us to further purify the samples.  An additional charge of $5.00/template will be added for the column cleanup procedure.

  • Billing
Services will be be billed on a monthly basis.

  • Use of the Base ImageIR software
Users will be allowed to read their own sequence using the Base ImageIR software on the sequencer computer secondary to gel loading, sequencing, base calling and maintenance by sequencing personnel.  Arrangements can be made to install the software on another computer. However, please note that this software requires OS/2.

  • Reruns
Samples needing to be rerun at the user's request will be charge half price per rerun (Service A).
