The 2009 season will mark Mr. Lawrence's 12th year as director of the Vandal Marching Band and a faculty member in the School of Music. He also directs the Concert Band and teaches the Tuba/Euphonium studio.

Nikki Crathorne, assistant director

Nikki Crathorne has been the assistant director of the Vandal Marching Band since 1996. She is an alumna of the band's trumpet section and of UI where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. She is director of the award winning Moscow All-City Band and teaches at Moscow's St. Mary's School.


Quentin Dewitt, percussion instructor

QuentinDewittQuentin Dewitt holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in percussion from UI. He has an active teaching, performing, and clinician schedule and is director of the Northwest Percussion Project. His many endorsements include Pearl, Sabian, and Vic Firth. Barb Kirchmeier, color guard instructor

barbBarb Kirchmeier has been affiliated with UI since 1996. She earned bachelors and masters degrees in Education and a masters degree in English while working with the UI color guard. She marched in the UI band from 1997-2004 and was the color guard instructor from 1999-2004. She is married to band alum Ben Kirchmeier and they have a beautiful daughter, June.

 

Cherice Cameron, administrative assistant

Cherice Cameron has been affiliated with the UI band since 2000. While her prinicpal instrument is the viola, she is a band supporter at heart. Her primary duties include planning band travel, overseeing attendance, and serving as honorary "band mom". She is currently the director of the Moscow Junior High string program and is the mother of six future band members.

Brian Redmond, graduate teaching assistant

brianBrian Redmond recently completed his fourth year of teaching K-12 music in Lakeview, Oregon before returning to UI to persue a master's degree. Brian graduated from UI with degrees in music education and composition, where he played the trombone and is a survivor of the sousaphone section.  Brian is in high demand as a handyman and diaper-changer at his home where he lives with his son, James, and his very patient wife, Kelly.

Ashley Hirt, graduate teaching assistant

ashleyAshley Hirt comes to UI from Pittsburg, Kansas, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Pittsburg State University.  While a student at Pittsburg State, Ashley served as drum major of the Pride of the Plains Marching Band and as principal euphonium for numerous collegiate and professional performing groups.

 

Alan Gemberling, UI Director of Bands

Alan Gemberling is an Associate Professor of Music at the Lionel Hampton School of Music where he serves as Director of Bands. He was the director of the UI Marching Band from 1988-1998 and currently directs the Wind Ensemble and teaches trombone. Since 1998 he has aslo been the primary announcer for the Marching Band.

 

Daniel Bukvich, arranger

Bukvich photoDaniel Bukvich currently teaches percussion, freshman music theory and ear training, composition, and jazz choirs at UI where he is a Professor of Music. He was the director of the UI Marching Band from 1978-1988 and still frequently arranges for the ensemble. More information can be found at his website: www.bukvichmusic.com

 

Kevin Woelfel, Director of the School of Music

kevin photoKevin Woelfel joined UI in 2007 as Director of the Lionel Hampton School of Music. He is a great supporter of the marching band and can frequently be found in the band section at games.

Sarah Greeley , color guard captain

Sarah Greeley is a senior from Boise, Idaho. She will graduate in December of 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, a minor in Spanish, and a secondary teaching certification. This is her fourth year in the Vandal Marching Band, and her sixth year twirling flags.
