RE: New Student Orientation for Fall Semester 2009
August 3, 2009
Dear New Honors Program Member:
I hope that you are enjoying your summer months and are looking eagerly toward the upcoming school year. I want to let you know about two events, to be held just as fall semester is about to begin:
UHP Parent Orientation, August 21, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Aurora Room, Idaho Commons
UHP Student Orientation, August 23, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Horizon-Aurora Rooms, Idaho Commons
At the UHP Student Orientation you will meet other incoming students and members of the Honors Student Advisory Board (HSAB), learn about honors study and upcoming trips and events, and have the opportunity to stand for election to HSAB. If you are unable to attend, contact the Honors Center (Idaho Commons Bldg., Room 315, or 885-6147 or honors@uidaho.edu) to give us your local address and phone number.
Please consider running for one of the board’s three new student representative positions. Learn more about HSAB by visiting the UHP website at www.uidaho.edu/honors_program/hsab.htm
At the Parent Orientation on Friday afternoon your family members will have a chance to meet others, learn more about the program, and hear about opportunities available to incoming students. I hope they can attend and look forward to talking with them.
Important reminder: to maintain your standing in the University Honors Program, including eligibility to register for spring 2010 honors courses, you must enroll in at least one fall 2009 honors course (minimum of three graded credits). If you are not already registered for an honors course, I advise that you register for an Honors Core Discovery section (Core 105.04, Core 113.03, or Core 125.02), and/or consider enrolling in one of the other 100-200 level honors courses. If you are not enrolled in a fall 2009 semester honors course as of August 31, your membership will become inactive and you will not be a member of the program (ineligible to enroll in honors courses and to receive other program benefits). If you are inactive yet interested to enroll in a spring semester honors course, please notify us by October 15 so that you may confer with your academic advisor about spring course selections. Further information and advice on registration is available at http://www.uidaho.edu/honors_program/newstudents.htm
If you have not yet done so, now is the time to set up your three “Vandal Accounts” (Web, Lab/Blackboard, Mail) at http://www.uidaho.edu/admittedstudents.aspx The VandalMail address is the university’s official means of email communication: a number of faculty, for example, send messages to their students before the start of fall semester. Start checking your VandalMail account on a regular basis.
The university has mailed the New Student Orientation Schedule to you; the schedule also is at http://www.students.uidaho.edu/default.aspx?pid=54623. If you have decided not to attend the university, please contact us as soon as possible (honors@uidaho.edu), and inform the Admissions Office at admappl@uidaho.edu
On behalf of the program, I look forward to seeing you this fall; best wishes for the remainder of the summer.
Sincerely,
Stephan Flores
Director
