The Lionel Hampton Center Initiative:
Honoring a Legacy and Building an International Home for Jazz

lionel Hampton"I hope you will join us in our quest to bring jazz and education under one harmonious roof.
Let the spirit of jazz fill the hearts of young and old."

-- Lionel Hampton

The goal: Combined federal, state and private funds to support the UI's music education, performance and research prominence. The project also honors Lionel Hampton's nearly 20-year association with the University of Idaho.

The Lionel Hampton Center Initiative has four objectives-it's a four-part harmony.
  • $8 million for scholarships and professorships for the Lionel Hampton School of Music

  • $6 million to support the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival

  • $6 million to support the UI's International Jazz Collections

  • Approximately $60 million for a performance and education facility, which will house an 800-seat performance hall, the International Jazz Collections, the Lionel Hampton School of Music faculty offices, student rehearsal space and offices for the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival

With a national leadership team in place, led by Former President and Mrs. George Bush and Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.), the campaign for the Lionel Hampton Center is undertaking the largest, most nationally prominent fundraising drive in the University of Idaho's history.
