UI Receives Recognition at District CASE Conference
MOSCOW -- The University of Idaho received a variety of awards in areas of communications, printing, programming and advising during the District Eight Council for Advancement and Support of Education conference held in Portland, Ore. last month.
District Eight includes colleges and universities in Alaska , Idaho , Montana , Oregon , Washington and the western provinces of Canada.
SArb, Helmke Capture the Helm -- The Student Alumni Relations Board (SArb) received the Outstanding Program Award for the 2003 UI Silver and Gold Day. The event honored Duane and Phyllis LeTourneau for their commitment and dedication to UI. Tim Helmke received the Outstanding Adviser Award. This is Helmke's sixth time to receive the award.
Cloning Success -- UI received a bronze award in the publications category for the mule clone trading cards, rack card and fans. Those working on the project included Candace Haley, Jeff Olson and Kathy Barnard of University Communications; Cindy Johnson and Barbara Ham of Printing and Design Services and Bill Loftus of Ag Communications.
A Trio of Wins -- In the electronic media category, UI received a Silver Award for the Clone Zone, http://www.uidaho.edu/clonezone/ . Recognition for the award goes to Haley and Ham in addition to Mark Wilcomb of Information Technology Services; Mark Brown, of ITS and Agricultural Communications and Don Pierce from College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
Project Idaho -- UI received a Bronze Award in the writing category for its Project Idaho news release. Recognition for the award goes to Barnard and Loftus. The Project Idaho release details UI's cloning breakthrough. In May 2003, a UI-based research team became the first worldwide to clone a mule. The research team includes Gordon Woods, UI professor of animal and veterinary science, Kenneth L. White, Utah State University professor of animal science, and Dirk Vanderwall, UI assistant professor of animal and veterinary science.
