• Franklin Delano Roosevelt is inaugurated as president of the United States and launches the first phase of his "New Deal" program. (1933)
• The Prohibition Act is repealed. (1933)
• Japan and Germany withdraw from the League of Nations.
• Giuseppe Zangara executed for attempted assassination of president-elect Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  Chicago mayor Cermak is fatally shot during the attempted assassination.
• The Prohibition is repealed.
• The USSR is finally recognized by the US.
