- Lenin dies and Stalin wins power
struggle; rules as Soviet dictator until his death in 1953.
- Interior Secretary Albert B. Fall and
oilmen Harry Sinclar and Edward Doheny are charged with conspiracy and bribery
in the Teapot Dome scandal.
- Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb are
convicted in the "thrill killing" of Bobby Franks in Chicago. They are
defended by Clarence Darrow and sentenced to life imprisonment.
- Robert Frost wins first of four
Pulitzers.
